Mexican hotel shooting forces Concacaf to move U-20 Championship venues and teams

July 26 – Concacaf has changed its match schedule and venues for the on-going Men’s U-20 Championships in Mexico after a police officer was murdered outside a team hotel in the city of Celaya.

Berhalter fired from US team with just two years to go before 2026 showcase

July 11 – Gregg Berhalter has been fired by the U.S. Soccer Federation “with immediate effect” following the US’s disastrous performance at the Copa America being hosted in the US and which they exited at the group stage.

July 9 – Canada’s first professional women’s soccer league – the Norther Super League – that kicks off next April, has appointed Christina Litz as its first President, while founder Diana Matheson will take on the role of Chief Growth Officer.

In 2026 the US and Mexico will take the lead with their Canadian neighbours in hosting the World Cup. While the football people in those countries will have only a limited role in the organising (FIFA want to do everything themselves, it’s their ball apparently), to most people worldwide the perception will be that the countries are hosting.
