January 19 – Former Birmingham owners David Gold and David Sullivan (pictured) have taken control of Premier League West Ham United after acquiring a 50 per cent stake in the London club for £105 million, they confirmed today.

January 6 – Manchester City have reported a loss of £92.6 million up until May 31, 2009, the biggest annual loss in English football history and emphasises the vast amounts of money invested by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al-Nahyan since he bought the Eastlands outfit from Thaksin Shinawatra in September 2008.

January 4 – The Premier League are set to pay Portsmouth’s £7 million share of the latest television monies directly to other top-flight sides to settle the struggling club’s outstanding transfer debts, it confirmed today.
January 1 – Portsmouth officials will meet with Nick Cusack, the chief executive of the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA), on Monday after the players’ wages went unpaid for a third time this season.
