Tebas social media rant intensifies war of words with Real Madrid

August 7 – La Liga President Javier Tebas has launched a blistering social media rant targeting Real Madrid President Florentino Perez and the lawyer Miguel Garcia Caba.

It comes after the denial of Real’s second appeal to move their opening La Liga fixture versus Osasuna, scheduled for August 19th, due to concerns over player recovery in the wake of the Club World Cup this summer.

That decision spurred Real’s official TV channel, as reported by Cadena COPE, to attack La Liga and the Spanish FA (RFEF), saying: “The competition is starting to be distorted, manipulated, and without a level playing field. Common sense was completely ignored. Neither the health of the players nor the fairness of the competition were protected.”

Tebas then hit back, intensifying the war of words in the form of a 5am rant on social media, specifically targeting statements made by Miguel Garcia Caba – a lawyer who has worked at La Liga, the RFEF and Real Madrid – who argued against La Liga’s ruling. Caba also argued that Tebas bends the rules when it suits him, an accusation the La Liga President dismissed contemptuously as carrying “as much legal substance as I have enthusiasm for curling.”

His thread, which was posted on X at 05:19am local time also sarcastically referred to Perez as ‘the supreme being’.

Responding directly to Caba, Tebas posted: “Are you implying that the Competition Judge should act corruptly, interpreting the regulations to the liking of the ‘Supreme Being’? BENDING THEM?”

Caba also claimed the La Liga President’s actions are motivated by an animosity for Real Madrid, to which Tebas replied: “You talk about animosity toward Real Madrid. But you’re mistaken about the adversary: The one who has filed criminal lawsuits against me has been Real Madrid.

“The one who has tried to disqualify me 4 times before the CSD (National Sports Council) has been Real Madrid’s leadership, by the way, trying to BEND the rules. The one who has filed over 100 complaints against LaLiga has been Real Madrid’s leadership.”
