London court grants former Arsenal midfielder Partey bail on rape charges

August 6 – The former Arsenal midfielder, Thomas Partey, has been granted conditional bail after appearing in court.

Partey’s appearance was due to rape and assault charges related to alleged offences that occurred between 2021 and 2022.

He has been charged with five counts of rape against two women, along with another charge of sexual assault against a third women, all of whom are unnamed. The Ghana international was in the dock at Westminster’s Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The bail conditions state that he cannot contact the women involved and that he must notify police if there are any changes to his permanent address. Additionally, he must tell authorities if he is going on any international travel.

With rumored reports claiming the midfielder has just signed for Spanish club, Villarreal, the chief magistrate Paul Goldspring said: “I understand he’s no longer employed in this country and playing in Spain now.”

His next appearance in court will be at the Old Bailey on September 2 of this year.

The case has caused controversy with Arsenal and their decision to allow him to continue playing while the charges were pending. He was officially charged four days after his contract with the club ended.

While on their recent tour of Asia, Gunner’s boss, Mikal Arteta said: “The club was very clear in its statement. There are a lot of legal matters that are very complicated so I cannot comment on any of that.

When he was asked whether he was confident the club has followed the right processes, Arteta replied, “100%”.
