CIES highlights Tottenham youngster Vušković

August 5 – The third CIES Football Observatory Prospect Sheet has identified 18-year-old Spurs defender Luka Vušković as the Premier League player to watch for the coming season.

Thomas Frank’s shiny new defender seems to have come out of nowhere, and is already valued at €40m by the CIES statistical model, which also estimates that his transfer value is ‘destined to rise’ with every game played in the Premier League.

Technically purchased from Hadjuk Split in 2023 for €11m, the Croatian only completed his transfer this summer. He spent last season on loan at Belgian side Westerlo, where he tallied 36 appearances and scored seven times.

The CIES report highlights that Vušković, who stands at 1.93m (6’3”) tall, has quickly earned a reputation for being dangerous in both boxes, possessing a superb attacking instinct despite his position and age.

Since arriving in North London last month, the youngster has already made a big impression. His unusual eye for goal has earned him early (if not slightly giddy) comparisons to Ronald Koeman from the Spurs support, after he tallied a goal and assist in just 47 minutes versus Reading in the club’s 2-0 win to open pre-season.

Joining up with a team that suffered high-profile struggles with defensive depth last season, CIES say that Vušković could be a game changer for Frank’s side, who return to the UEFA Champions League this time around.

From an e-sports perspective, the player could be a valuable option for Fantasy Premier League players – his cool £4.0m price point makes him one of the cheapest options available and could be worth a punt if his rise up the ranks is to be as meteoric as expected.
