July 29 – The Algerian Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) has become the latest top tier national professional league to join the World Leagues Association (WLA).
The LFP was established in 2010 and is the governing body responsible for the Algerian Ligue 1 Mobilis. The 16-team league plays a central role in the development of football across the country, working with the Algerian Football Federation and clubs.
The LFP will now have formal access to WLA’s global network of 45 professional leagues, “offering opportunities to exchange expertise, share best practices, and benefit from the expertise of the World Leagues Association,” said the WLA.
The membership agreement was signed by Mohamed Amine El Mesloug (pictured right), president of the LFP, and Richard Masters, chair of the World Leagues Association, in London, at the English Premier League’s offices.
Mohamed Amine El Mesloug, president of the LFP, said: “We look forward to working closely with the WLA and its members to strengthen professional football in Algeria and contribute to the development of the game both in Algeria and globally.”
Following the signing ceremony the LFP presented on its ongoing efforts to professionalise Algerian football. General secretary of the WLA, Jerome Perlemuter, also led a session to assess the current strengths of the league and identify areas for future cooperation and support.
“We are delighted to welcome the Algerian league as a new member of the World Leagues Association. We commend the league and its leadership for the recent progress made in strengthening professional football structures in Algeria and look forward to supporting its future growth and success,” said Masters (pictured left).
