Qatari league gets rebrand and new title sponsor

July 29 – The Qatar Stars League (QSL) is getting a fresh coat of paint, a new name, and a financial injection, with Doha Bank stepping in as title sponsor from the 2025/26 season.

From August, the top-flight of Qatari football will be known as the Doha Bank Stars League, a name that rolls off the tongue slightly less smoothly but comes with a lucrative multi-season partnership.

A new logo and visual identity were unveiled as part of the overhaul – with design elements “inspired by the championship shield,” symbolising strength, unity, and ambition. Or in simpler terms: it looks sharp and fits neatly on the front of a matchday mic.

It’s part of a broader effort by Qatari football authorities to keep the league relevant and growing post-World Cup, bolstered by fresh investment and a renewed push to attract attention at home and abroad.

President of the QSL, Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain, positioned the move as a stepping stone toward greater competitiveness and visibility, thanking Doha Bank for their “continued support.” Bank CEO Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Fahad bin Faisal Al Thani described the deal as part of the bank’s “ongoing support for Qatar sports in general and football in particular.”

On the pitch, the league continues to flex its appeal with a string of international recruits arriving ahead of the new season. Former Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino leads the pack at Al-Sadd after transferring from Saudi side Al Ahli, with Pablo Sarabia and Jordan Veretout joining Al-Arabi, Krzysztof Piątek landing at Al-Duhail, Mason Holgate at Al-Gharafa, and Raúl de Tomás heading to Al-Wakrah.

Whether or not the name change will stick in the minds of fans remains to be seen, but with fresh branding and an increasingly global playing cast, the newly-minted Doha Bank Stars League is hoping to earn more than just interest this season.
