Everton join Chelsea and Aston Villa in selling Women’s Team

July 29 – Following in the footsteps of Chelsea and Aston Villa, Everton have sold their women’s team, boosting transfer funds and helping them to remain compliant with the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

The Times reported that records on Companies House show that the Merseyside club transferred Everton Football Club Women Ltd to a company called Roundhouse Capital Holdings, which is controlled by Everton’s owner Dan Friedkin.

The move mirrors strategies undertaken by Chelsea and Aston Villa to avoid breaching the league’s PSR guidelines. Club insiders reportedly said the transfer will allow the women’s club to attract investment from the United States, but accepted that it will also help the Toffees comply with PSR. The club were previously deducted six points after failing to comply with PSR in the 2021-22 season and two points for a breach in the 2022-23 season.

Last year, Chelsea FC Holdings, which houses the club’s operations, sold Chelsea Football Club Women Limited (CFCW) to Blueco 22 Midco Limited, a fellow subsidiary of Blueco 22 Limited, the club’s parent company, for £200 million. The figure was ten times the annual revenue of the women’s club. If Everton follow the same logic, they could value their women’s team then at £60 million.

Aston Villa sold Women’s Football Club Limited (AVWFC) to V Sports, the club’s parent company in Luxembourg.

It allowed both clubs to register a profit, even when they sold the women’s clubs to themselves, incorporating the transfer into their wider legal structures.
