July 29 – UEFA’s Technical Observer panel has named its Women’s EURO 2025 Team of the Tournament – with finalists England and Spain unsurprisingly dominating the selection.
Both countries have four players included in the XI, underlining their dominance in a competition that culminated in a dramatic final between the two powerhouses of the women’s game.
Spain may have come up just short in the final, but they still produced the Player of the Tournament, Aitana Bonmatí, whose performance in midfield throughout the competition was hailed as “instrumental” by UEFA’s technical team. The Barcelona star was one of three Spain midfielders to make the XI, alongside compatriots Patri Guijarro and Alexia Putellas, while defender Irene Paredes was also selected.
From champions England, goalkeeper Hannah Hampton, defender Lucy Bronze, and attacking duo Alessia Russo and Chloe Kelly are recognised for their contributions a second consecutive EURO title.
Germany and Italy were the only other nations represented in the team. Germany’s Franziska Kett and Jule Brand featured in defence and attack respectively, while Italy’s Elena Linari was included at centre-back.
The Team of the Tournament was compiled by UEFA’s Technical Observer Group, who had dedicated scouts at every match, supported by the federation’s in-house analysis unit. The panel said their selections aimed to “reflect not just technical brilliance, but also those who influenced the biggest moments of the tournament.”
Not in the team but celebrated nonetheless was 18-year-old England forward Michelle Agyemang, who was named Young Player of the Tournament. Agyemang made her major tournament debut this summer and impressed off the bench both with her overall play and vital goals in the quarter-final and semi-final.
Meanwhile, France forward Delphine Cascarino’s stunning long-range strike against the Netherlands was named the Goal of the Tournament at UEFA Women’s EURO 2025.
The French winger unleashed a powerful effort from distance during the group stage clash on 13 July, catching the Dutch goalkeeper off guard and sending the ball soaring into the top corner.
