Bulgarian FA wins Gabrovo stadium tender

July 29 – The Bulgarian Football Union (BFS) will invest €370,000 in the construction of a football stadium with artificial turf in Gabrovo after winning a tender to rent the site of a disused velodrome held by the local Municipality.

The Bulgarian Football Union will manage the site for 20 years, with the construction of a new football pitch to take place in the next 12 months.

The BFS announced the news in an official statement: “The former velodrome in Gabrovo will be transformed into a new football field with artificial turf. After a competitive procedure and a decision by the Gabrovo Municipal Council, the Bulgarian Football Union was selected as the tenant of part of the municipal property on which the former velodrome in the city is located. The condition set by the local government is that sports infrastructure be built on the property. The BFS will be the tenant of the property for 20 years, committing to an investment worth BGN 741,320, which must be realized within 12 months.”

Mayor of Gabrovo Tanya Hristova and BFS President Georgi Ivanov signed the lease agreement and visited the terrain of the former velodrome. Hristova commented on the agreement as a “good partnership” and stated that support for the development of the modern sports facility in Gabrovo continues.

“We have agreed on a long-awaited and important investment for the development of children’s and youth sports, located in an exceptional area that is yet to be developed as a preferred area for sports and recreation,” the mayor said upon signing the contract.

“Our cooperation with the Municipality of Gabrovo is another step in the implementation of our long-term strategy for the development of children’s and youth football and modern sports infrastructure throughout the country,” Ivanov added.

“We are pleased that we will transform the former velodrome into a modern football field, which will enable hundreds of children and young athletes to train in excellent conditions.

“With joint efforts, we will create another attractive place for sports and a healthy lifestyle in Gabrovo.”
