LaLiga targets South Asia with three-season Begin OTT deal

July 25 – LaLiga has secured a new five-season exclusive broadcast partnership with South Asian OTT platform Begin, granting Begin rights to stream all matches from both LaLiga EA Sports and LaLiga Hypermotion in Pakistan and Bangladesh beginning with the 2025/26 season.

Rights will extend to Sri Lanka for the 2026/27 campaign.

The deal makes Begin the official digital distributor for La Liga competitions across a region with some of the sport’s fastest-growing audiences.

“This partnership with the prestigious football competition La Liga signals our serious intent to transform the sports content economy in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka,” said Jonathan Mark, CEO of Begin.

“By providing a legal, scalable, and monetisable platform for premium leagues, we’re enabling rights holders, content producers, and brands to engage fans with confidence and scale.”

LaLiga President Javier Tebas echoed the sentiment. “We are delighted to have Begin partner with us for Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. At LaLiga we always look for best-in-class partners to deliver Spanish football to fans everywhere,” he said. “Begin brings strong local expertise and shares our passion for growing the league’s reach.”

Beyond broadcast reach, the deal is also aimed at addressing systemic issues in the region’s sports media ecosystem—namely piracy and fragmented distribution. The partnership with Begin seeks to offer a legitimate and structured alternative to unauthorised streaming platforms, which have long undermined the commercial viability of premium rights in South Asia.

“Our collaboration lays the groundwork for a structured, future-facing ecosystem that delivers secure and commercially viable sports content,” added Mark. “It aligns with Begin’s long-term ambition to support outreach programmes, develop local talent, and uplift a sustainable football talent pool across the region.”
