July 24 – Former Manchester United striker, Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández is in the process of ruining his reputation after the Mexican Football Federation’s fine and warning for his jaw-dropping TikTok misogyny.
“A few days ago, on the social media platform TikTok, player Javier ‘El Chicharito’ Hernández made statements promoting sexist stereotypes,” the FMF announced Wednesday.
The 37-year-old’s comments included gems like: “’Don’t be afraid to be women, to allow yourselves to be led by a man’ and ‘Women, you are failing, you are eradicating masculinity, making society hypersensitive.’
President Claudia Sheinbaum delivered the perfect response: “Chicharito is a very good soccer player. But when it comes to his opinion on women… he still has a lot to learn.” She then twisted the knife: “I’m a mother, I’m a grandmother, I’m also a housewife. But I’m also the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. Women can be whatever we want.”
Even his club, Chivas threw him under the bus, noting his “recent messages posted on social media represent an individual’s stance, which are contrary to the principles and values of our institution.”
Some of the finger-pointing goes to life coach Diego Dreyfus, apparently the guru behind Chicharito’s ‘new persona’.
We’re now watching Mexico’s all-time leading scorer with 52 goals transform into a cautionary tale about athletes with too much time and too little sense.
The FMF’s code of ethics supposedly sanctions discriminatory statements, though they conveniently ignored businessman Ricardo Salinas Pliego’s attacks on female journalists earlier this year.
