July 17 – On the sidelines of the Women’s Euro, the International Labor Organization (ILO) hosted a symposium to explore the improvement of labour conditions and responsible event hosting in women’s sports.
The meeting was attended by stakeholders across football including the Women’s Leagues Forum (WLF), European Leagues, Fifpro, and governing bodies, as well as the Swiss government and the Centre for Sport and Human Rights.
Topics covered included greater professionalisation of women’s football, and the importance of structured engagement and collaborative action. Delegates heard speakers from number of different disciplines, including broadcasters, leagues, players unions, civil society, and athletes.
Moya Dodd, Secretary to the Board of the WLF, represented the Women’s Leagues Forum, which represents professional women’s leagues at the global level, and acts under the umbrella of the World Leagues Association (WLA).
The Women’s Leagues Forum said that it “supports the ongoing international social dialogue between leagues and players’ unions to advance professionalism in women’s football. A key milestone in this process is the Global Labour Agreement concluded by the World Leagues Association and FIFPro under the auspices of the ILO.”
