July 10 – Anyone who watched the UEFA U21 European Championship unfold last month is already familiar with Germany forward Nick Woltemade. The towering young striker made waves for both club and country towards the end of the season, picking up six goals in four UEFA U21 matches – earning him the place as the first standout in a new “prospect sheet” report by the CIES Football Observatory.
Once a hidden gem flying under the radar, CIES have shined a fresh spotlight on one of Germany’s brightest emerging forwards.
The 198cm-tall (6ft 5) centre forward is currently on the books at VfB Stuttgart and recently caught wider attention as top scorer and finalist at the European U21 Championship. Now, the CIES data-driven scouting team has identified Woltemade as a modern, all-round striker with elite potential—not just for his finishing and aerial dominance, but also for his chance creation and link-up play.
According to the CIES Football Observatory’s valuation model, Woltemade is worth €56.9 million to a top European club – remarkably close to the rumoured fee Bayern Munich are reportedly weighing up. With a contract at Stuttgart running until 2028, the Bundesliga club holds the cards and could choose to delay a sale until 2026, gambling on another breakout season that could push his value even higher.
For Stuttgart, it’s a familiar balancing act: cashing in now on a high-value prospect, or holding firm in the hope of an even greater payoff later. For the player, the choice may come down to timing. A move to a Champions League contender like Bayern would accelerate his exposure—but staying could guarantee the minutes and responsibility he needs to develop further.
Woltemade himself has a clear goal in sight: a place at the 2026 World Cup in North America. The CIES report even notes that he may soon be challenging the likes of Kai Havertz for a starting spot, given his increasingly complete attacking profile.
Whether he stays in Stuttgart or makes a leap to a European heavyweight, one thing is certain—Nick Woltemade is no longer flying under the radar.
