June 15 – Bulgarian online bookmaker Mr Bit has taken the naming rights to the country’s second tier professional league.
The sponsorship, agreed with the Bulgarian Football Union BFU, is for an initial two years with the possibility to expend for a further season. The league will be named the Mr Bit Second League.
The sponsorship will see each club in the league receive BGN 40,000 (€20 000) per year on the condition that the clubs use it to develop their children’s and youth schools according to a BFU-administered methodology.
“Today we officially launch a new and extremely important partnership for the development of Bulgarian football. We welcome Mr Bit as the general sponsor of the Second League – a championship that is the key to the development of Bulgarian players. This partnership is not only a strong financial boost, but also a clear sign that brands with a modern vision like Mr Bit believe in the potential of Bulgarian football. I am convinced that our joint work will bring benefits not only to the teams and players, but also to the fans and the entire football community. I thank the Mr Bit team for the trust and efforts in implementing this cooperation,” said the president of the Bulgarian Football Union Georgi Ivanov.
“We will not just be sponsors in the classical sense of the word. Along with financial support to each club, we will make every effort to develop the product in terms of media and marketing. One of the many steps in this direction will be the broadcasting of another match, outside of television, on our platform,” said Mr Bit marketing director Tatyana Zhelyazkova.
Bulgarian Professional Football League president Atanas Karaivanov emphasised the ability the sponsorship will give to clubs to improve infrastructure, working conditions in the clubs “and, most importantly, to increase the interest of spectators and the media in the league.”
