Singapore lands Soccer7sSeries hosting for end of July

June 13 – Singapore has secured hosting rights for the latest leg of the Soccer7sSeries, a commercially driven seven-a-side tournament aimed at blending legacy football names with emerging talent, as the city-state ramps up its sporting portfolio for its 60th independence anniversary celebrations.

The tournament, scheduled from July 25-27 at Jalan Besar Stadium, will feature Men’s Open, Women’s, and Masters categories. It joins a growing calendar of high-profile sporting events in Singapore as the country continues to position itself as a hub for sports tourism and regional fan engagement.

Organisers are marketing the event as a family-friendly festival, but the deeper strategy is clear: expand the Soccer7s brand into new markets.

The 2025 edition features clubs from across the world, including Brazil’s Corinthians and Borussia Dortmund, whose former players will appear in the Masters competition.

The Men’s Open will see 16 teams competing across three trophies – Cup, Shield, and Plate – while 10 teams will contest both the Women’s and Masters competitions.

Southeast Asian clubs such as Indonesia’s Persib Bandung and Malaysia’s Selangor have been brought in to boost regional relevance and draw local crowds.

The tournament’s timing and structure appear designed to serve multiple commercial objectives: brand extension for participating clubs, youth scouting opportunities, and event-based tourism.

While ticket sales are underway, the long-term ambition is for the Soccer7sSeries to evolve into a multi-location franchise model, with Singapore as a proving ground.

“Singapore has truly become a global sporting destination, so we’re delighted to bring the Soccer7sSeries to the country,” said Dom Lane, Chief Executive Officer for the Soccer7sSeries.

“Fans will be treated to faster football. Our Soccer7sSeries format involves 15-minute games played on a full-size pitch, meaning we have four games played every hour. We’re really excited to show fans in Singapore what the Soccer7sSeries is all about.

“We have some exciting names including ex-Premier League winners and Champions League competitors and already lots of great teams confirmed from Europe, South America and Asia-Pacific with even more to announce.”

Former Singapore national team Captain Shahril Ishak, also competing in the Masters Tournament, added: “We’re excited to have the world’s best Sevens talent coming to celebrate our nation’s anniversary with us. I can’t wait to take to the field and compete against such high calibre opponents.”
